Dundee Fan Park announces partnership with the AIG Women’s Open
The city’s largest Euro fan zone, Dundee Fan Park, has announced the AIG Women’s Open, the most international women’s golf major which is being played in St Andrews this August, as its latest headline sponsor.
Dundee Fan Zone, organised by local events company, 22A Events, is set to be Dundee’s largest Euro fan zone for watching Scotland’s National football team compete in this year’s European Championships in Germany. The event, which will run across all three dates on which Scotland play their group stage matches, is bringing together sport, music, and entertainment to create a family-friendly festival atmosphere at Riverside Park in Dundee.
The AIG Women’s Open is set to take place at the iconic Old Course in St Andrews, renowned as the home of golf, from the 21-25 August. This will be the third time the Old Course has staged the prestigious Championship which is owned and staged by The R&A, which governs the sport worldwide, outside of the United States and Mexico.
The showpiece of The R&A’s commitment to championing the changing face of women’s golf, the AIG Women’s Open sees the world’s best athletes go head-to-head in the most international line-up of the year. The Championship aims to attract new and diverse audiences by challenging perceptions of golf and delivering an exceptional off-course experience to match the dramatic on-course action. This year world number one Nelly Korda, defending champion Lilia Vu, English powerhouses Charley Hull and Georgia Hall and Scotland’s own Gemma Dryburgh will be in pursuit of the Championship title across one of the most revered layouts in the world, whilst chart-topping singer-songwriter Tom Grennan will thrill fans with a live concert on Saturday 24 August.
Speaking of the partnership with the AIG Women’s Open, Dundee Fan Park organiser Angus Robb commented; “When it comes to sporting spectacles, it doesn’t come much bigger than golf in St Andrews, and The R&A are world renowned for their championships. We are delighted to be working in partnership with their team and are looking forward to welcoming them to our Fan Zone to watch all of Scotland’s group stage matches.”
Championship Director – AIG Women’s Open at The R&A, Zoe Ridgway, added, “The AIG Women’s Open is a world-class championship featuring the world’ best golfers, but it is also a vibrant and exciting event for sports fans and families. We hope to attract all sports fans, not just golfers, to experience the incredible talents of the women competing for the title whilst also providing them with as much off course action with a Tom Grennan concert. By aligning with the Dundee Fan Park to promote the AIG Women’s Open to Dundee’s passionate football fans we hope to attract them to watch more live sporting action in St Andrews later this summer.”
Dundee Fan Park is open at the city’s Riverside Park on 14th, 19th and 23rd June, showing all of Scotland’s group stage games at Euro 2024 tournament. With lots of live entertainment including local singer-songwriter Be Charlotte, internationally-superstar DJ Hannah Laing, and Winner of BBC’s The Voice Stevie McCrorie, the fan zone which is open between 3pm – 10.30pm is set for festival vibes.
